Miss Centroid Pageant
Calling all cuties!!! Application forms for the Miss Centroid pageant (10th- 12th graders) and the Jr. Miss Centroid pageant (7th- 9th graders) are available outside Mrs. Stover’s room, M-27, and in your email. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be a part of a 32 year Central High School tradition.  There is no fee to be a pageant contestant. The 32nd annual Miss Centroid pageant will be held on Saturday, March 20.

FFA to Co-Host County Steer & Heifer Show

On Sunday afternoon, March 7th, the Coosa County Steer and Heifer Show will be hosted by the Coosa County FFA, Coosa County 4-H Club, and Farmers Federation! One of our students, JR Chapman, will be showing his market steer at this show. The show will be held at 3:00 PM at the Coosa County Cattlemen's Association facility on Hwy 231 in Hanover (just down from the school). Please see the flyer for more information. JR Chapman Earns Statewide Scholarship
Central High School student, JR Chapman, was recently awarded the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Scholarship. This Scholarship is awarded to youth that are involved in the livestock industry in Alabama.  JR serves as the chapter president of the local FFA.  Congratulations, JR!

SGA Presents: Black Excellence Celebration Contest

SGA is celebrating Black History Month with our student body with a tribute video entitled, Black Excellence, created by Rebekah Burton and Zyriah Meadows.  Students can also enter our Black History Month Contest by submitting their own examples of African-American who have achieved leadership positions in our county, state, or nation. Three winners will be chosen to receive free admittance into a home baseball game and a free combo meal!

9th Grade World History Class Recreates African Textiles

9th grade World History students recreated African textiles as a cross curricular art project during their study of Imperialism in Africa.  Students then made a comparison how societies now use flags to identity themselves as people once used textiles to identify themselves.

Physics students are exploring topics in Mechanical Energy. They are looking at the effects of Potential and Kinetic Energy, Work, negative work, Conservation of Energy, Mechanical Advantage, and Machine Efficiency. They performed a simple machine and Mechanical Advantage lab. In this lab, they looked at the M.A. and efficiency of levers, inclined planes, and pulley systems.  Students pictured include Alden Bennett, Koby Allen, Xavier Moon, and Ethan Cano.

Physical Science students are exploring topics in Atomic structure and electron configuration. They performed a lab building the atomic models of the first ten elements on the Periodic Table. They had to draw the Bohr Model of the elements and the Electron Configuration. The students were able to manipulate the energy sub levels s and p in this lab using the manipulatives at their desks.

Cougar Varsity Boys Win 2A Region 8 Area Championship

The Cougar Varsity Boys Basketball Team recently defeated Fayetteville by a score of 70-35 in the Area Tournament . The Cougars then advanced to defeat the Vincent Yellow Jackets on Friday, February 12th, with a final score of 49-46, This win earned the Cougar Varsity Boys the title of 2A Region 8 Area Champions.
